There are nearly as many bands in Brooklyn as there are people. I myself am in a prog-rock collective called Miniature Horse. We’re horrible. (Actual miniature horses, however, are all right.) Let me break it down for you Freakonomics-style: If every band in Brooklyn played “Won’t Get Fooled Again” at the very same time, the entire borough would rip free from the earth and go spinning through the galaxy, destroying every bit of matter in its path, like a black hole sort of, but instead of being full of nothingness, full of rock.
But some of the Brooklyn bands are more full of rock than others. Internet, I give you The Mendoza Line! Their literate, sexy, funny brand of pop music is completely addictive. The press they’ve received has tended to pigeonhole them as a roots band, and they have that appeal, but they’re bigger and better than that. Fans of the Smiths and Portishead and the Jesus & Mary Chain will also be pleased.
Check ‘em out here, or here as they embark on their summer rampage.
Cheers,
Owen
