Dear All,
Welcome to my redesigned website! With a new book to flog to the public — more on that in a moment — it seemed like the right time to give my internet house a delicious new makeover. "Oh, you want something delicious?" asked/threatened my friend, Amanda Spielman. "Oh, I'll give you delicious! I'll give you delicious until your head spins, sonny!"
And did she ever! I threw some ideas at Amanda, she caught them, beat them into shape, called in the brilliant picture-maker Ryan Feerer to bring the whole thing to glorious life, and here's the result. To quote Al Pacino, "Hoo-hah!" It is, to the best of my knowledge, the only clothesline-themed website on the internet, and I couldn't be prouder. Thank you to Amanda and Ryan — you guys are amazing.
Now, about the new book: Who Can Save Us Now? co-edited by yours truly (in tandem with John McNally), is an anthology of brand new superhero stories by some of our finest writers, and even as I write these words it's shipping out to bookstores everywhere. Among those featured are Tom Bissell, Kelly Braffet, David Haynes, Jim Shepard, George Singleton, Scott Snyder, Jennifer Weiner, and David Yoo. Also included: remarkable illustrations by the Christopher Burnham!
Here's what NPR's Glen Weldon wrote about the book:
"Superhero tropes turn up in every short story of this new anthology, but its 22 authors eschew the tidy duality of hero/villain to stake out moral territory where the lines between good guys and bad fade to obscurity. As a result, Who Will Save Us Now? is a surprisingly varied read, by turns funny, creepy, melancholic and joyous."
If you get the chance, we'd be thrilled if you picked up a copy —
Cheers,
Owen King
